The Sea to Summit Trail is a relatively new addition to the Sea to Sky Corridor trail system, and in complete honesty, has always seemed a bit daunting to me. It quickly earned itself a reputation for being a beautiful, yet gruelling trek up to the Lodge at the top of the Sea to Sky Gondola.
Olivia, Alexandru, and I began our hike at the Stawamus Chief parking lot, taking the stairs of the Chief up until we reached the turn off point for the Sea to Summit. Having been hiking the Chief regularly this summer, it was a pleasant treat to step foot on a new trail, especially one that weaved its way up in a less-vertical approach when compared to the first and second peaks of the Chief.
At one viewpoint, about halfway up, I was reminded how our gorgeous corridor attracts people from all over the world. I overheard one woman commenting on how stunningly turquoise the lake below looked, and stifled my giggle as someone explained it was actually the Pacific Ocean.
My favourite rest stop along the route was some of the pools of Shannon Falls that sit alongside the trail.
Once at the top, we celebrated with burgers and iced tea, followed by hot chocolate and a walk around the Panorama trail. From the suspension bridge, we observed a wedding ceremony being held on one of the lookout platforms.
I was excited to have checked this hike off the list, and am looking forward to the next trek up!
